Welcome to Field Notes

I’m glad you found your way here.

Field Notes is the more personal corner of The Good Ground. The lessons on this site — Grounded, Rooted, Fruitful — are built to be worked through slowly, in order, preferably with someone else at the table. Nothing here has to be read in order. Come as you are, start wherever you like.

You’ll find two kinds of writing here.

The first is sermons. I’ve been preaching and teaching for a while now, and much of that work has been sitting in folders and notebooks that nobody can access. Some of those messages still have something to say, so I’m going to dust them off and put them where they can be read. A few will be close to how they were first preached. Others I’ll rework, because I’ve kept learning since I wrote them.

The second is answers to real questions. If you walk with God for any length of time, you run into things that don’t resolve neatly: questions about suffering, about prayer that seems to go unanswered, about doubt that shows up right in the middle of faith, about what to do when Scripture is hard to read or harder to live. Those questions deserve better than a verse tossed over the shoulder. I want to take them seriously here, honestly, without pretending I’ve got every one of them settled.

So consider this an open door. Read what’s useful, leave what isn’t, and if a question comes up that you’d like to see addressed, I’d love to hear it! You can reach me at [email protected].

Keep digging. God always has more for us to grow in!
